Essay submitted by Vanessa:
Being first generation to attend a university, it was very difficult for me to get
accustomed to being away from my family and friends in Chicago, Illinois to enter a
university of 50,000+ students whom I did not know in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Luckily,
I met an undergrad student who is now my best friend. I spoke to him about one of my
worries of not being able to continue my education at the University of Michigan because
of financial reasons. Having my parents filing for divorce and attending an out-of-state
university was not easy for me and my mother, who also takes care of my younger two
siblings. So he quickly suggested and insisted that I register at Freescholarshipguide.com
and apply to for a scholarship.
I didn't believe it would be possible for me to win a 10K scholarship! However, I went
ahead and signed up anyway. When I received the phone call saying I had won the
scholarship, I was so surprised and couldn't believe it at first! Nevertheless, I am so
happy that I did! With this out of state tuition and my parents filing for divorce, it
was getting too difficult for a single mother to make such large payments a semester.
It's not easy!
I plan to use this scholarship for my tuition for my following year at this university.
This scholarship will really help me continue with my education and reduce the yearly
costs of my attendance. I am so grateful for this scholarship.

Hometown: Glen Rock, PA
Intended Degree: Bachelor of Chemistry
Essay submitted by Nicholas:
I found FreeScholarshipGuide.com by doing a web search for scholarships that would
be appropriate for me.
I plan to use the scholarship money by applying it toward my tuition at Washington
and Jefferson College where I am finishing my 2nd semester of my freshman year. I
plan to major in Chemistry with a pre-med emphasis, so most likely I will be going
on to graduate or medical school.
My Mom, Lois, is my sole source of support being divorced from my Dad for a number
of years. She has saved and worked hard as a Physician Assistant, to put me through
college like her Father did for all of his children. I myself can contribute my
earnings, take out loans and hope to obtain scholarships and grants to help meet
expenses but although tuition at Washington and Jefferson is more affordable than
most private Liberal Arts Colleges, the path to becoming a chemist or going to
medical school is a costly one.
I want to help pay for my education so my Mom is able to retire sooner rather than
later and without a large amount of debt so she can enjoy what she has worked so
hard to earn.
I am so appreciative of the opportunity to go to a good college that I feel I owe
it to my family to do well and help contribute to my education as much as possible.
I am grateful for this opportunity to do so, through the generosity of Scholar Web
Media and a bit of good luck.

WASHINGTON, PA (April 11, 2007) - Washington & Jefferson College freshman
Nicholas Masters knew he needed more than a "bit of good luck" when he
registered late last year to win a $5,000 scholarship through
FreeScholarshipGuide.com.
Turns out, it was on his side that day.
The chemistry and pre-health major from Glen Rock, Pa., was chosen at random as
the scholarship winner out of more than 400,000 applicants. He plans to use the
money for on-campus housing and textbooks. He said he found
FreeScholarshipGuide.com by doing a Web search for scholarships that would be
appropriate for him.
"My initial thought was, 'what's the catch?'" Masters said. "But as things
unfolded and I realized it was legit, I thought it was really great. I am
excited and appreciate the opportunity that I have to go to a great college like
W&J."
In a short essay that was part of the application process, Masters explained
that his mother, Lois, is his sole source of support. He said she has saved and
worked hard as a physician assistant to help put him through college.
"The path to becoming a chemist or going to medical school is a costly one. I am
so appreciative of the opportunity to go to a good college that I feel I owe it
to my family to do well and help contribute to my education as much as possible.
I am grateful for this opportunity to do so, through the generosity of Scholar
Web Media and a bit of good luck," Masters wrote in the essay.
Masters said two representatives from the company arrived at his home to present
him with the check.

Essay submitted by Teresa:
For as long as I can remember I have always thought about going to college. This is
because I have always wanted to be a Veterinarian. I never grew out of that. It
wasn't a phase it was my dream. I was always told it was going to expensive but I
was determined to find some way to get the money. My father told me he would try
his best to help me pay for it as much as he can but that I needed a little more
help. I went searching through the internet one day looking for loans when I saw
Free Scholarship Guide. At first reading the information I thought that there would
be no chance for me actually winning it because of all the other people that had
also registered already. But I thought positive and filled out the information
anyway thinking that by a twist of fate that winner could be me. Nothing like this
ever happens to me. Let's just say I'm not really lucky, but I do have faith. I sent
it in and crossed my hopeful fingers. A while went by and I figured somebody else
won it and I tried to forget and look for different ways to help find the money
until I got a call, at first it was really hard to believe but Stephanie had to
keep reassuring that it was in fact very much real. I have never been more grateful.
I am even closer to my dream than I have ever imagined.

Intended Major: Nursing / Nurse Practitioner
Essay submitted by Nikki:
Receiving scholarship money for college is extremely important in my journey to
college. Coming from a larger family my parents aren't able to help pay for my
continuing education needed to obtain a degree from The University of Texas at
Austin. Because of my situation it is essential to earn scholarships to help with
the cost of college. The help of a scholarship would greatly benefit me by taking
some of the burden of paying for college off my shoulders. My goals for my education
are high and I set myself to a standard to do my best and never less. I plan to
work hard to receive a four year bachelors degree in Nursing. This would allow me
to begin my career immediately upon graduating. After graduating with a bachelor's
degree I plan to start working at a hospital as a nurse to be able to complete my
necessary time of gaining work experience before I return to school. The next step
of school in my life would be to enroll in a Nurse Practitioner's program where I
will earn my NP degree. Becoming a nurse practitioner will allow me to use my
abilities to help others to the greatest amount possible. I have high hopes and
high standards set for my future so that I am able to live a successful life
helping others. This scholarship money would put towards a worthwhile cause. I am
a dedicated student that has high hopes for my future.

Hometown: Duson, LA

Intended Major: Associates in Business Administration
Essay submitted by Amanda:
I have applied for this scholarship for a number of reasons. I will begin with the
most important reason first-so that I could afford to go to school. I have a
beautiful son and a daughter is on the way. My children mean the world to me and I
want to be able to offer them the world. I cannot do this without an education. I
am working towards an Associates Degree in Business Administration. I currently have
a 4.0 grade point average and I've already earned 44 credits. I want to be able to
offer my kids the things I did not have in life. I am willing to work as hard as I
possibly can to make sure of that. Going to school is an important step in a
person's life. It takes self-control and discipline. While attending school,
I will make it a point to be the best that I can be. With this additional
assistance, it will allow me to go beyond the stars.

Intended Major: Nursing
Essay submitted by Sylvia:
My oldest daughter Helen has always caught my attention because she works very hard
to be a good example to her sisters. I am a very old fashioned mother and I do not
allow Helen to always go out whenever she wants to. I work full time as a bus driver
from four until twelve midnight. My husband also works, and I hope Helen will be the
first one in my family to attend college and actually finish. Helen presently
attends Mary Help of Christians academy and she has a scholarship there and she also
does work study hours at her school so that they can help us with the money. I have
three daughters including Helen. I have worked very hard over the past years and I
always tell my daughters that I have sacrificed myself for them for so many years.
I never finished my education and I don't want the same for Helen. I know my
daughter Helen has a real good head on her shoulders. She is the daughter I have
alwyays hoped for because she is very mature in her actions and I am proud of myself
because I brought her up right. If you grant us this scholarship it will mean so much
to our family. Five thousand dollars would be a big help because I also have to look
out for the future of my two other daughters which still have to go through high
school and college. I know from the heart of a mother that Helen would never let me
down because she knows better than that. If we win this scholarship Helen would want
to attend William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey to become a nurse. Please
consider our dreams it would be what we hoped for a long time.
