Essay Contest

Robert Welch University Scholarship Essay Contest (added on January 31, 2006)
Robert Welch University is proud to announce its 2006 scholarship essay contest. The contest is designed to evaluate students’ intellectual capacity, critical thinking, writing skills and research abilities. Robert Welch University is an online university offering a liberal arts degree and a wide variety of courses with a particular focus on American Studies. Robert Welch University takes a non-sectarian, principled approach to higher education. This years Essay is to evaluate the following statement: "The political thought and career of Abraham Lincoln was based on the principles of the Declaration of Independence." A total of 10 awards will be given. The author of the first place essay will receive free tuition for one session at Robert Welch University. The second place through fifth place authors will each receive one free course during one session at the university. The sixth through tenth place authors will receive a complimentary copy of a book addressing the subject. Finalists will receive recognition of their essay, their instructors and their schools on our website.

History

The History Channel Save Our History National Honors (added on January 24, 2006)
The History Channel wishes to honor teachers and students across the country who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to local history through their preservation or history education efforts. WRITE A PLAY! NYC, the New York City School Playwriting Contest, is open to all NYC students. Plays are judged in three categories: elementary, middle, and high school. All entrants receive a Certificate of Merit, a written evaluation of the play, and an invitation to the annual Awards Ceremony.

Public Service

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation (added on January 12, 2006)
The Truman Scholarship provides up to $30,000 in funding to students pursuing graduate degrees in public service fields. Students must be college juniors at the time of selection. The Foundation also provides assistance with career counseling, internship placement, graduate school admissions, and professional development.

Oceanography

The Marine Technology Society - Ocean & Marine Network (added on January 03, 2006)
MTS is committed to helping students achieve success. Their scholarships are expanding the opportunities and touching the lives of tomorrow's marine engineers and technologists. Scholarships are available to MTS student members and non-MTS students and/or high school seniors who plan to study a marine science/engineering/technology field and who have been accepted into a full-time college curriculum.

Siemens Westinghouse Competition (added on December 31, 2005)
The Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement are awarded each year to students with the greatest number of scores of 5 on AP exams taken in grades 9, 10 and 11, as well as to teachers and schools based on their development, growth, and improvement of Advanced Placement instruction in math, science, and technology.

Immigrants

The Merage Foundation for the American Dream is dedicated to promoting expanded opportunities for immigrants to the United States. It inspires young immigrants to achieve their American Dream. The Sertoma Foundation, an International charity, believes that universal communication, whether heard, seen or spoken, is the key to human understanding. The Morris K. Udall Foundation (added on November 15th)
The Morris K. Udall Foundation was established by the U.S. Congress in 1992 to honor Morris King Udall's thirty years of service in the House of Representatives. In 2006, the Foundation expects to award 80 scholarships of up to $5,000 and 50 honorable mentions of $350 on the basis of merit to sophomore and junior-level college students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to the environment or have demonstrated commitment to careers related to tribal public policy or health care, and are Native American or Alaska Native.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Scholarships (updated Nov 10th 2005)
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have celebrated 80 years as a unique presence in our nation's classrooms by identifying and documenting outstanding achievement of young artists and writers in the visual and literary arts. Want to turn your passion for cooking into a career? Now you can! The Chef2Chef Scholarship Fund allows aspiring chefs to fulfill their culinary dreams by awarding them with grants. Complete a grant application form along with a 500 word essay no later than November 30, 2005, prove that you have a financial need, participate in the Chef2Chef forums, attend an accredited Culinary School or Institute in 2006 and you are on your way to being considered for a Chef2Chef Scholarship Grant.

The American Meteorological Society administers an array of graduate fellowships and undergraduate scholarships with the support of its members, corporations, and government agencies nationwide. All-USA Academic and Teacher Teams (added on October 10th 2005)
Attention all students and teachers! Did you know that four times a year, USA TODAY acknowledges 20 outstanding students and educators to be featured in the nation’s newspaper? The students, who must be enrolled in a high school, two-year college or four-year college program, will each get $2,500 cash awards. Each teacher will receive $500, with the balance of $2,500 award going to the school for use at the teacher’s discretion.

Do you like to write and want to make this world a better place? Then this scholarship contest may just be right for you. The United States Institute of Peace holds an essay contest for students. First place state winners will receive college scholarships of $1,000.
